When trees are first harvested and cut, we call it “green” lumber because it has not been dried or treated. Green lumber has a very high moisture content, and if it is used, it will tend to warp and twist as it dries and contracts. If the water is not removed, the lumber can’t be used to produce a high quality stable finished product. When lumber is dried right, it machines better, glues better, and finishes better. Drying also improves the stability of the lumber, preserves color, reduces weight and controls shrinkage.
In kiln drying, lumber is placed in a chamber where airflow, temperature, and humidity are controlled to provide as rapid drying as can be tolerated by the lumber without increasing defects. Leisure Lumber uses a Conventional Kiln. Our custom made North American Kiln has the capacity of 40,000 FBM per cycle. So bring on your drying… yeehaw…
